“Katie James has represented both my husband & I on multiple occasions over the past 6 years. We always feel as though we are being represented with the utmost care and professionalism. Katie is always prompt in her response to many of our questions over the years, a truly rare trait.” —Client Review

As a top Douglas County estate lawyer, Katie assists with wills and estates, together with Medicaid planning for elder clients; and more, serving clients throughout Colorado.  Katie derives much satisfaction from learning about each client’s unique situation and creating the best plan to serve them.  Her style is to educate clients beyond what they need for planning, so they understand why they need it to meet their goals.

Katie assists clients with Trust and Estate Administration in a cost effective manner.  She is available to advise Trustees, Personal Representatives, and other fiduciaries with as much or as little involvement in administration as the client may prefer.  Katie relates well to people in emotional or sensitive situations related to losing a loved one, or when representing Guardians or Conservators when a loved one is incapacitated.

When representing clients in business matters, Katie provides services in business entity formation and structure, contracts, licensing, asset purchase and sale, contractor agreements, and other business needs.

Katie’s real estate and land use practice includes representing Buyers and Sellers in residential or commercial transactions; residential and commercial leases; deeds, easements, licenses; subdivisions and other development; condominium creation and parcel splits; foreclosures; and more.  She is a licensed Colorado Real Estate Broker and this fact affords Katie a unique perspective and additional resources for client real estate matters.  Katie lived in Grand County, Colorado for 14 years before relocating to Douglas County.  She is very familiar with real estate and land use issues in rural areas, and comfortably navigates the process of working with local governments and other authorities to achieve her client’s goals.

Her background prior to law was in the hospitality industry, and Katie is committed to excellent “customer service” for her clients.  Katie strives to give her clients the personal attention and focus their matter deserves.  After graduating in the top of her law school class, she practiced in a small firm and in solo practice for several years, both in Grand County and Douglas County, before joining the firm.  She continues to serve as the Administrative Hearing Officer for the Town of Grand Lake.
